Israel Peyi's Story

Israel Peyi was born in 1995 at Badagry, Lagos Nigeria to Mr and Mrs Peyi. Mrs Peyi had just Israel to Mr peyi before she married someone else. Mr Peyi asked his brother who lives in Ibadan to take custody of Israel after his primary school education. The Uncle maltreated Israel to the point that He seized all that His father gave to him-phones, money and all other valuables. Isreal ran away and found his way to Abuja where He is presently.

Flickers of Hope Foundation found Israel under a bridge and his hope came alive. Israel has found friends, God and Hope. He will be back in school soon and life has taken a new turn.

What does life mean?

It is still a challenge for scientists and philosophers to define life in unequivocal terms. There seems to be a lot of definition for life, some incorrect and some incomplete.
Some of these are:
1.The condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.
2.That which imparts or excites spirit or vigor; that upon which enjoyment or success depends.
3.The state of being which begins with generation, birth, or germination, and ends with death.
There are some quotes too:

"No one is in control of your happiness but you; therefore, you have the power to change anything about yourself or your life that you want to change"

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts"
How many of these can you relate with; the quotes, the definitions?
It amazing to know that each day we walk the face of the earth looking, seeking, asking and probing on the definition of life- Do you know many people sincerely that not answer this question?
Can you?

Life is a Gift!

We often see gifts and miracles as the big and gigantic things we experience, like a new car, a new house or a scholarship.
We do not appreciate the seemingly little and most important gift, that create opportunities, hope, faith and life.
It's high time, we start appreciating life that is counted in the oxygen inhaled and  in our lungs.
Start appreciating life and the use of it.
When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.
You are alive for a reason and for some one.
Find the reason and the person. don't abuse the life you are given and the opportunity to make a difference.
Find the purpose for the next oxygen you will inhale and carbon dioxide you exhale!

The Cry for Hope!

I am a child who has no father
I am a deserted child of a sick widow
I am a hawker on the street
I am a cart-pusher in the market
I have been reduced to a poor, indigent child

I did not want it
I did not attract it
I did not cry for it
I did not pray for it

But I find myself in this situation of misery and grief
One i don't pray for anyone
I find it difficult to feed one good meal a day
I consult the dustbins and trash
I close my eyes to sleep
not on a bed/mat, but on an abandoned carton on the street

I watch others get educated
Speak good English
I watch them see their dreams come true
I wonder when mine will be due for consideration

I cry each day
I pray someone, somewhere, will hear, see and be felt by my cry
I cry for a meaning to LIFE
I cry for a future
I CRY FOR HOPE!

DETAILS OF FOH FOUNDATION

Flickers of Hope is divided into three departments:

1.      T-GROUP: this is the Transformation Group/department that
works on the mindset of the young people, helping them to learn,
un-learn and relearn. This group is the first department the young
people come in contact with, they get to change and adjust their mind
set, understand who they are, their strengths and weaknesses.
The group members are volunteers in universities and youth corps
members who are trained by Flickers of Hope as volunteers.

2.      R-GROUP:this is the Reformation Group/department that
works with special students who have peculiar cases; either they
cannot read and write at all, or they have lost confidence in
themselves and cannot move straight into the information group (formal
school).

3.      I-GROUP:this is the Information Group/department in charge
of taking the students back to school. They are in charge of Career
Guidance and Counselling, locating schools and the admission process
of the students.

Since Flickers of Hope is an NGO, how does she get her resources?
We have a category of 2 flickers (givers):

1.      GOLD FLICKER: is one who is connected to a child and gives
responsibly to see that particular child through school. The
background, capability and progress of the child is given in details
to this Flicker.
Then the Flicker can decide on any other thing he or she wants to do to further help the child.
2.      DIAMOND FLICKER: is one who gives to the cause (educating children)
not being specific about the number of children or the particular child he wants to sponsor.

That little you have can put a smile on the face of a child out here in Nigeria!
Let's join hands together and make a difference.
From the entire crew of FOH we say, YES WE CAN!
